Miliband urges EU to cement Serbian ties amid Kosovo rift
UK-Foreign Secretary David Miliband today urged the European Union to reinforce its ties with Serbia amid growing concern of a rift over Kosovo.
The bulk of EU countries backed Kosovo's declaration last month of a break from the rest of Serbia – risking undoing efforts to bring Serbia into the EU and pushing

But arriving for EU talks in Brussels, Mr Miliband insisted Serbia's future still remained with Europe.
He said: "We have strongly argued there must be a hand of friendship from the European Union to Serbia There is a shared view across the 27 EU countries that we
have a responsibility to ensure the Serbian people know their country has a strong place in the EU of the future."
The remarks follow the resignation of Serbia's prime minister Vojislav Kostunica, claiming he could not hold his coalition government together because of splits over
Europe's backing for Kosovo.
